Accessible wellness: designing for symptom monitoring

The Problem

With POTS cases on the rise since Covid-19, many patients face the challenge of managing complex, unpredictable symptoms with little personalized guidance. Traditionally, they’re handed a general list of potential triggers, leaving them to guess at what truly affects their well-being. This app transforms symptom tracking, allowing users to log various potential triggers and moods, and providing a clearer, personalized view of what factors help or hinder their health.

Research

Based on our user personas, we identified the essential needs and preferences of individuals managing POTS symptoms:
The app should prioritize simplicity and ease of use, allowing users to quickly log symptoms, mood changes, and potential triggers with minimal effort.
Users need a clear overview of their symptom trends and triggers over time, enabling them to see patterns and identify what affects their well-being most.
A symptom history feature would allow users to view past entries and fluctuations, providing valuable data they can share with healthcare providers for better treatment adjustments.
Include customizable reminders to encourage consistent tracking without overwhelming the user, as this is essential for accurate insights.
Offer insights and suggestions based on individual data, helping users make informed lifestyle choices and manage their health more effectively.
